During the Covid lockdowns in 2020 & 21, I was required to quickly adapt my teaching practice in order to deliver high quality Art lessons online, using Microsoft Teams and a visualiser to facilitate practical demonstrations in drawing, painting, printmaking and mixed media. I thoroughly enjoyed this challenge, finding new and creative ways to communicate my passion for the subject I teach to my students and utilising the tools available to better support them on a group and individual basis. This gave me the taste of another way of teaching which still enabled me to get the immense fulfilment of working with students to develop their skills and understanding, whilst being able to offer them a more individualised learning experience.
Despite being back in the classroom over the last few years, I have continued to set assignments and communicate with my students online; over the recent Easter holidays this was an invaluable tool which enabled me to seamlessly continue to advise and guide individual students to develop their ideas by recommending artists tailored to their chosen concept during this crucial period in the run up to their GCSE exams. This is the element of creative projects which I find that students struggle with the most and the aspect of my teaching practice which I find the most rewarding and would like to be able to offer to a wide range of students through online tutoring. I am also experienced in helping students to prepare a portfolio for interview for a range of courses including foundation and degrees in Art and Design, Textiles, Interior Design, Architecture and Animation.
