I teach from carefully crafted topic booklets bespoke to individual pupils depending on their level, module topic and any SEND or EAL they may require.
I use a baseline session to discuss with the pupil their aim from our sessions and assess where they are within their learning then map out an initial 5 week action plan. The level of challenge will build throughout the sessions and there will be elements of oracy, retrieval, deliberate practise, independent practise and assessment. I will not set homework though will use sessions leading up to exams to teach revision effectively. I have taught Edexcel and AQA exam boards as well as a range of Shakespearean and 19th century texts to give me a wide range of academic resources and activities to help build my pupils academic abilities and their cultural capital. My degree itself is in Creative writing so section B of both Language Paper 1 and Language paper 2 at GCSE are a strong point of mine giving students a bank of key concepts and ideas that they can use to consciously craft original and engaging pieces of fiction and non fiction. Using these to then practise skills such as annotation and understanding writers intention then become much easier for pupils to access as well as feeling proud of the work they have produced.
I only work online and in blocks of 6/7 weeks that mirror the school terms. My sessions always take place on a Monday, Tuesday and Thursday between the hours of 5:30-8:30 or Saturdays and Sundays between the hours of 12:00-4:00 I’m I also offer group sessions for up to 4 pupils at once for £10 per child so students can learn from each other and develop their employability skills by practising team work, communication and dedication.
