To start with, I believe mathematics is our way of life. its a daily activity that we undertake every single day. With my few years of teaching, I learnt that using the kinesthetic learning is the best method when it comes to mathematics. The kinesthetic teaching method and strategy helps the student learn through activities instead of listening to a lecture-physical activity aids in absorbing information through motion, movement and touch. This teaching method is a way to obtain information through real-life concrete examples and get into the field to understand them. Relating it to mathematics, I believe breaking it down and relating it to our normal life activities helps the student to get a better understanding and remembering and applying it to solve a problem becomes easier. With my experience as a math teacher and teaching assistant, I realized that students finds it easier to understand when it is being related to real life situations and using that methods helped me change the mentality a lot of students had about mathematics. Also some qualities like being patience with students helps a lot in the fact that not all student processes and absorbs at the same rate. Having enough patience for each of your students goes along way to help both you and the student. Being able to relate it to real life situation will require you being creative as a teacher. Be creative enough to let the student enjoy the class. As a tutor, you are a leader so you should be able to lead, detect a change in any of the students and be able to help them concentrate on the lesson.
