I have experience teaching university courses and tutoring in elementary maths, algebra, calculus, discrete maths, linear algebra, and more, all the way up through the graduate level. I also have experience teaching and tutoring people of a wide range of ages, as well as people who speak English as a second language. I'm used to teaching online as well and have tech set up to do so.
I have a PhD in mathematics, so I'm familiar with all the major subject areas. I can explain how complicated-looking formulas really express simple or intuitive ideas, or how many seemingly-different problems can be approached in the same way. My private lessons are typically interactive, focussing on guided practice and talking through problems together; but I am always willing to adapt to an individual students needs or learning style. If you're working on practice problems, I can give hints or ask leading questions to model expert problem solving and lead you down the right path. If you need help understanding or reviewing a topic, I can explain the fundamental concepts in an intuitive way and give examples.
I'm always looking for ways to improve my teaching, so I'm sure I can adjust to be most helpful with whatever challenges you might be facing. I'm passionate about maths, but I also understand that not everyone loves it (though maybe for some I can change that). Whether you like learning about theory and thinking like a mathematician, or just want the bare minimum to succeed in a calculus course, I can help!
