My lessons start with going over previous challenging homework and commenting on it and the student to give a presentation of what topic they have been assigned from the last lesson. They will have had to research their topic well and present it well and will be questioned by me.
I then go into the main part of the lesson which will be the topic of the day and use powerpoint, you tube clips and debating issues that come up and this will form part of the next homework, research assignment for the start of the next lesson. I also sporadically give quizzes and tests and we also go through past exam papers.
I find that presentations are very useful because the student has to put a great deal of effort in to them and I will quiz them on their presentations and knowledge of the topic that has been given to them. Past exam paper questions are used in the lesson and also for homework for them to feel confident in answering exam questions as there is a style and predictability in the papers. There is lots of questioning and discussion in my lessons to open up minds.
I have many materials already saved tried and tested and they seem to work well with students. The students have access to these materials for every lesson and I give feedback to parents on their child's progression and can also contact me at any time for progress reports which I do after every lesson.
