I teach expecting there to be some failure. I believe we learn best from our mistakes and misconceptions, and gives a clear picture of how to improve and what areas to work on the most and see the progress we are making. I like to use illustrations to teach and use my iPad a lot to draw out explanations which are easier for students to understand than huge bodies of texts. To learn, I will use the specification to create flashcards and ensure the student can complete AO1 (recall). I then will use past exam question banks using the textbook and also online websites such as Physics and Maths Tutor. I have spent hours of revision myself on these subjects so I know the good websites and also the bad ones. Using these past paper questions, we will spend the end of the session marking them, and also reflecting on what the answer should be and why we got it wrong. I will then ask the student to do some work outside of our sessions so at the start of our next session, if they come with any questions we can iron them out straight away. I believe in doing individual work, but sometimes students can begin to feel lost when revising and just need to be directed where the best places to use are and also the things they should do. I have lots of tracking spreadsheets for each student to fill out themselves so together we can see the areas that we are comfortable in but also the areas to improve in.
