My lessons are tailored to the student, using an approach that centres your goals and builds upon whatever musical experience you have. I like to focus on gaining the fundamental skills through exploring repertoire, exercises and just having fun with the instrument. Technique and musical knowledge are incredibly important but are often taught in such a dry clinical way that they are quickly forgotten, I prefer to make all musical education immediately practical so even the least enjoyable element of learning becomes exciting and pleasurable.
With my years of experience as a teacher working in such varied environments as schools, special schools and even prisons I have taught people from all backgrounds and ages, but through all of my experience I have found that enthusiasm and patience are the two most important skills as a teacher, I'd like to think this is evidenced by my history of students consistently reaching their goals, many of whom are now working musicians.
As a performer I've performed at festivals and stages around the country and europe, winning such awards with bands as "the parliamentary jazz award and the European Jazz award".
Despite training in Jazz, composition and indian classical music I have experience performing and teaching most styles, from metal to folk to mariachi. Any type of music that interests you to learn interests me to teach. I can accommodate most needs when it comes to teaching, as in the past I have taught mobility and learning impaired students, including those whose mobility issues would typically mean they couldn't access the bass.
