I began tutoring three years ago right after my A-levels, starting in a private institute before moving on to teach classes at Havering Sixth Form College in my gap year. Currently, I’m an academic mentor at Imperial College London’s Global Summer School, guiding groups of up to 20 students. These varied experiences have sharpened my teaching skills and adaptability, making me an effective tutor for all learning styles.
The structure of a typical 1-on-1 lesson is as followed:
1. We go through the notes and ALL the small details that make an A grade student an A*.
2. I do a few sample questions with you, ranging in difficulty, showing you how to tackle different types of problems.
3. Your turn: You continue practicing with questions I provide, ensuring you reinforce your learning.
At the end of each session (typically 1hr), a homework is attached and you're expected to send the completed homework before the next session, where I would mark and go through in session if necessary.
Over the past year, I've had some truly rewarding moments as a tutor:
1. A-Level Triumphs: Two students who started with average grades of B ended up scoring A*s in their A-level Physics exams. One of them also got A*s in Maths and Further Maths, which was amazing to see.
2. Oxford Success: One of my students preparing for the PAT test not only aced it but also got into Oxford to study Physics.
3. Cambridge Wins: Three students I coached for the ESAT test made it to Cambridge. Their hard work and our focused sessions paid off big time.
Seeing my students achieve their dreams and exceed their expectations has been incredibly fulfilling.
