I have a Master's degree in Biochemistry from the University of St. Andrews (#1 ranked university in U.K. according to Guardian). I graduated top of my class, and top of the School of Biology. I also graduated as one of the top graduates across the university. Alongside this, I have won a number of awards for academic excellence.
Throughout my degree, I have developed a broad and deep academic understanding of both Biology and Chemistry. I also have extremely valuable research experience, having completed a highly competitive Industrial Placement at AstraZeneca, and a highly competitive research internship in Sweden. Recently, I am conducted Alzheimer's and prostate cancer research. These research experiences mean I am able to not only help students link theory to practice, and provide them with a deeper understanding of Biology, but I can also support them with their career prospects and provide advice and insight into successfully applying for internships or university courses. Furthermore, I can help students develop their presentational and writing skills, two skills that are extremely important in biology, and science as a whole.
I begin by going back to basics. I establish firstly that the student has a solid foundation and understands the topic's fundamental principles. From there, I will build up into more complex areas. I have a very engaged style of teaching, constantly testing the student with questions of understanding and practice questions. To check that a student understands, I will ask them to explain the topic back to me, and will dig deeper and deeper into their understanding to ensure they are completely comfortable with the topic. I try to introduce anecdotes or fun facts about a topic to help with memory retention. I also ensure that I review with the student the material regularly, to help with short term to long term memory transfer. I centre a compassionate, engaged and proactive approach to student learning.
