I tutor GCSE and Key Stage three English Language and English Literature. Suitable objectives and approaches will be discussed with students and parents/carers during the initial session.

I mostly teach online but I can also travel to clients homes in Shropshire, Worcestershire, Wolverhampton, Telford and Dudley, subject to availability.
Many students find they are able to learn at least as effectively online as they can in person. This method of learning can have significant advantages, such as live collaborative editing facilities and multi-media interaction. I regularly utilise Zoom and Classin with full parental consultation, to deliver 1-1 dedicated lessons to students.

English is a skill-based subject, and an art form. For parents and students to better understand and remember these foundations, I call it ARC. Certainly, there is some explicit information to remember for language, and especially literature, but the study of both can be broken down into a few essential skills that need to be practised regularly in order to be successful. You would never hope to become a Picasso, a sports star or a professional musician unless you practised your art! Consequently, all of my lessons have the following skills at their core:

Analysis of the methods writers use to convey messages

Recognition of the deeper, implied messages created by writers (Inference)

Crafting of the student's own writing for clarity and effect
