After a short introduction as to what the student needs to learn- whether that information is supplied by themselves or by their parents, I can utilise learning schemes, homework examples, school work and exam specifications to cater to what the student needs to improve upon. I can use different methods such as mind maps, SMART goals and visual stimuli to help teach the student. I can create PowerPoints and worksheets for the student to keep as reference and help create a memorable lesson. I would suggest student’s building a workbook or folder for study in our sessions, purely for revision and recall purposes. I can adapt during a lesson to the student’s needs and I can work as fast or as slow as the student progresses. I am able to utilise a wide range of skills and communication techniques to supply a useful lesson. Not only do I specialise in English, both literature and language, but I also specialise in Creative Writing, which as an author is very useful in being able to teach in a variety of ways. I have taught singing before - for over 2 years - and have supported students through exams, which along with the fact that I myself have been these exams, gives me a personal insight into how hard some students may find it. I also believe my age makes me more relatable and creates a more relaxed learning environment for younger students, whom may find me more comfortable to study with than an older tutor.
