Studying a core subject of the national curriculum (science) at College and studying Biomedical Sciences at University (achieved 2:1), has allowed me to master problem-solving skills and immaculate written and oral communication skills. I am a qualified teacher with QTS currently teaching year 4 and I believe education is limitless; it is not something that should be restricted by the social position, family, or culture that an individual comes from, but rather influenced by the motivation, encouragement and inspiration one receives. Coming from a low socio-economic background I truly understand the struggles one must overcome to pursue education, however, it was the guidance from supportive teachers that enabled me to overcome this lack of confidence. Through scrutinising scientific literature, I have developed analytical and evaluation skills, as I was provided with constructive feedback following the grading of assignments. In a particular mathematics lesson, the topic taught was 3D shapes. I supported the children in creating their own shapes with playdough and sticks. The children were engaged in the lesson and were able to use the correct mathematical terminology when discussing the shapes they created with their peers. I was able to encourage the children to use key vocabulary and focus on the properties of the shapes. My observational and supervisory skills allowed me to challenge the pupils appropriately and scaffold for those who required this. I am a firm believer that the best lessons result from high-quality planning which needs to be adapted to suit the child's needs. At times, certain lessons need to be stopped and redirected to something more simple and sometimes you need that constant retrieval so children remember and can link prior learning to new learning. Sentence stems allow children to recall vital information better (I say you say).
