I am studying Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Maths in Sixth Form at the moment and I have a grade 8 and a predicted A in maths. Having been an experienced mentor for over a year, my main forms of teaching use quick, useful methods to shorten the boring working out, while still getting crucial method marks. I am an excellent communicator and planner and have a proven track record of building strong relationships with my mentees and am adept at managing priorities and deadlines. In other words, I have a structured yet adaptable lesson format to ensure students achieve a comprehensive understanding of mathematical concepts. Each session begins with a brief review of previous material to reinforce their memory and address any lingering questions. This is followed by a clear presentation of the day's topic, broken down into manageable steps with examples. I incorporate a mix of instruction, guided practice, and independent problem-solving to cater to various learning styles, personalised to the students. Interactive activities, such as collaborative exercises are used to make the learning process engaging and to build critical thinking skills. Homework assignments are given to provide additional practice and reinforce classroom learning. Throughout the lessons, I emphasise a growth mindset, encouraging students to view challenges as opportunities for learning. Periodic assessments, like quizzes or quick verbal checks, help the students' understanding and inform future lesson planning. I also tailor my approach to individual needs, offering extra support for struggling students and enrichment for others. By fostering a positive and supportive learning environment, I aim to build students' confidence and competence in mathematics, ensuring they not only perform well academically but also develop a genuine appreciation for the subject.
