I am currently in my final year of studying a joint honours degree in English language and philosophy. English language is a particular passion of mine and having achieved an A* in my GCSE it puts me in good stead to help students ranging from nursery to primary school age. I adapt my methodology to suit the student’s needs as it is important to me to teach in a manner in which the student feels most comfortable. According to the student’s school syllabus, we will split the subject into sections and I will ask the student which areas they find most difficult and this will be our primary area of work to target. As well as targeting these areas, we will work consistently on spelling, punctuation and grammar depending on the academic level of the student. I also like to incorporate prose sections from a book the student may be reading or a topic the student is particularly interested in, to make the lessons more engaging and relatable. I like to make my lessons interactive so we can use flash cards, whiteboards and other relevant online resources. My lessons involve a lot of verbal communication as this is a crucial aspect of practising the subject and building confidence as well as creating an established relationship between myself and the student. My aim is to help improve the confidence of my students in English language, with regular tests to ensure progress is being made. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any further questions!
