I like to start my first lesson with a casual chat, to see what is the students’ need and what topic are they stuck on. After finding out their struggle I’d focus on one topic each time so that we can go into detail understanding of it. Finally I like to have a lively lesson where interactions are often, thus I’d be asking students questions on the topic to see if they fully understand it.
Of course, the lesson style can be adjusted to suit the students’ preferred way of learning, to make it as effective as possible!
