I always get to know my students as well as I can which allows me to tailor lessons to their particular needs. I teach students with a wide range of capabilities and my pace reflects this. From the first lesson, I am quickly able to determine how quickly we will need to cover particular topics. As stated in my bio, I have six years of experience teaching Science from KS2 to A-level. I am therefore very aware of the 'spiral curriculum' and how lessons weave into one another. I have a vast bank of resources from the different schools I have worked in. I am able to pick and choose these before the lesson with a student based on their particular need. I review students progress regularly and adapt our sessions based on their performance. It is very important to me that the student feels comfortable to discuss questions with me in our sessions together. This means that they are able to work through problems they may have not had to courage to face on their own previously. I regularly communicate with parents/guardians about their son/daughters progress and I think this supportive relationship is crucial. The general format of my lessons, is to take the first 10 minutes talking about the students week/day and then start with some recap questions from a previous lesson. I will then explain the concept to them and show some examples. We then work through some questions together and I slowly release the supportive help that I am giving them. I've seen this method achieve fantastic results that students are proud of.
