Hey I’m Ryan!
I’m a very big believer that being able to understand the concepts behind what is being learnt is THE most important part of doing well in your exams.
Many people spend hours highlighting and memorising key words and formulas in a way that’s almost robotic when I firmly believe that they would see more benefit from taking a moment to think about why this content is being taught to you and what place it has in the overall subject that you are taking.
This is the method that I used to revise for my A-levels and not only did it work, I received A*AA, but it was so much more time efficient than the rote learning methods everyone seems to rely on. I found that on average my time spent revising was almost half that of my peers!
How I apply my method to tutoring is very simple
1) I will ask you to identify 4 areas where you are struggling, these can be as broad or as specific as you like.
2) I will ask you why it is that you think you are struggling in these areas, whether you can’t quite seem to grasp the content being taught to you or you find yourself lagging in exam conditions.
3) Together we will explore ways that I can help you with the areas you are struggling in and find what works best for you. For example, are you someone that enjoys doing exam style questions or do you like to be shown models and visuals on the content you are learning? Do you learn through mnemonics or are flash cards more your thing?
