I qualified as a Secondary (English) Teacher in 1996. My first position was as a full time Classroom teacher at St Ives School in Cornwall. I taught across the age range of 11-16 with a full timetable and full classroom teacher responsibilities. During my time at the school I became the Literacy Co-ordinator and passed through the Higher Teaching Grade Threshold.
After leaving full time teaching, to bring up my children, I re-entered the education system, by teaching Adults at evening class. I taught GCSE English and English Language. I became more involved with Adult Education and eventually took on the role of GCSE English Tutor, and later became Course Co-ordinator, for the Access to Higher Education Course at Falmouth, Cornwall. I continued to teach the GCSE English part of the course.
Whilst teaching for Adult Education I began my own private tuition business, and tutored children from Primary to Secondary age. I taught on a 1:1 basis both at my own home, and in the childrens' homes.
At this time I also taught Primary School children in small groups, and Secondary children in small groups, to support their Literacy Skills.
After taking a number of years out to focus on my family, and work alongside my husband with our Small Business, I have now re-entered the Education System and am currently working with Year 11 pupils towards their Mock Exam papers, via online platforms.
I am an extremely passionate teacher. I love my subject and am very enthusiastic about the subject area. I believe that my own enthusiasm for my subject inspires the children I teach. Through my teaching, they can often view the subject, perhaps in a more positive way, than can sometimes transpire in a full classroom environment. I am completely committed to every pupil I teach and endeavour to teach them to the best of my ability at all times. I aim to teach in a way that best supports each individual pupil. I have a very friendly, approachable nature and believe that I can communicate well with each child. I am not just interested in what they can produce 'on paper' but am interested in them as an individual, their interests, thoughts, ideas and aspirations for the future. If I can help them in any way, that it what I will aim to do. Their success is my reward. I am a very outgoing personality who loves the outdoors. I am lucky enough to be able to spend time on the beautiful Cornish Coast, and I love to spend time with my 2 rescued horses. I am married with 3 grown up children, 2 of whom still live at home. I am therefore able to enjoy the company of young people on a daily basis. There is never a dull moment in my life!
