I have mostly been a classroom teacher, but have taught 1:1 as well. I have worked in both Further Education and Secondary Education. I enjoy didactic teaching, which involves a lot of discussion and debate, particularly with GCSE or A-Level students. While I can do face-to-face teaching with local students, I'm more than happy to provide online tuition using a platform like Zoom, Google Classroom, or Microsoft Teams. I have taught English across KS3 and KS4, so working towards your GCSEs, and building the written and comprehension skills you will need to succeed in your English exams, is my strong point.
To get the highest grades in English, History, or Politics, you don't just have to know your stuff regarding the curriculum, you also have to be able to think outside the box and be knowledgeable about different ideas. I encourage, and can provide where necessary, additional reading to widen these horizons for you, as well as where to look for great revision resources. We'll expand on your creative writing, consider deeper meanings and inferences in the literature you read, and be precise in answering questions. Lessons in History, English, or Politics could include giving you a question to research, and then defend your position in a debate. I like to avoid worksheets where possible, unless you find them useful! I have worked as an examiner, so I am confident with what exam boards expect from excellent responses, and we can work together to ensure that you're showcasing the very best of your abilities to gain the highest grades.
