Hello, I’m Ruth Keeley, an enthusiastic English tutor with a passion for teaching younger students. My lessons are tailored to the unique needs of each student, focusing on creating an engaging and supportive learning environment that fosters growth and confidence in using the English language.
Lesson Format and Content:
My lessons typically begin with a warm-up activity to engage the student and set a positive tone for the session. This could be a fun game, a short story, or an interactive discussion about their interests. I believe that learning should be enjoyable, and I strive to make each lesson dynamic and interesting.
The core of my lessons involves a mix of reading, writing, speaking, and listening exercises. For younger students, I incorporate a lot of visual aids, stories, songs, and interactive activities to make learning English fun and memorable. I use a variety of teaching materials, including age-appropriate books, online resources, and custom worksheets, to cater to different learning styles and keep the lessons diverse.
Teaching Experience and Approach:
I hold a BSc in Social Sciences and have recently started substituting in a primary school, providing learning support for third class students, particularly those with learning disabilities. In addition, I have been offering grinds to Leaving Cert students in subjects like Irish, German, Biology, and Home Economics, which has equipped me with the skills to adapt my teaching methods to meet the needs of individual students.
I also completed the LIFT Ireland course, where I mentored a group through an eight-week program focused on leadership. This experience has honed my ability to support and guide students through their learning journeys, helping them develop not only academic skills but also important life skills such as leadership, organisation, and time management.
Personalised Learning:
My teaching style is student-centered, meaning I adapt my lessons based on the student’s strengths, weaknesses, and interests. I provide personalised instruction and assistance with homework assignments, projects, and exam preparation. I aim to build a strong foundation in English while also helping students develop effective study habits and organisational skills.
Supportive Environment:
I believe in creating a positive and encouraging atmosphere where students feel comfortable to express themselves and make mistakes, as this is an essential part of the learning process. I am patient, understanding, and dedicated to helping my students achieve their academic goals.
Whether your child needs help with their English homework, wants to improve their reading skills, or requires extra support to boost their confidence, I am here to help. Let’s work together to make learning English a fun and rewarding experience!
I look forward to the opportunity to support your child in their educational journey.
