My lessons start with the most simplified concepts possible which are the backbone of the lesson.
The student is presented with a question or puzzle to get them to discover this concept themselves!
This way they NEVER forget this idea. The fundamental concept is then built upon throughout the lesson as the student makes the connections! The student's personal understanding of things is just as important as the material otherwise they won't integrate it into their understanding effectively.
Colourful images and shorter segments of text are used and punctuated with heuristic quizzes and games which can be very powerful in helping students' understaning grow.
I am animated and expressive as a person and have a keen eye for the fundamental concept or idea behind anything which is incorporated into my lessons. I inject the right amount of humour to make lessons FUN. Play and fun with room for exploration, growth and creativity are the best ingredients for great leaps in learning.
I have come to believe that everyone is not simply different but unique and I like to give people room to express and be themselves rather than dumping knowledge on them.
There is a degree of revisiting and repetition of anything covered at optimal intervals to ensure recall and reinforcement of what is learnt and this ensures a continual platform for growth.
When looking at the most challenging material it is the human factor that is most important.
Many English teachers do not appreciate fundamental differences between nouns and adjectives or metaphors or similies.
Nouns attempt to name something and in a sense create it whereas adjectives just describes attributes. Similies are more logical comparisons whereas metaphors are more emotional and appeal directly to the imagination. Great English comprehension and creative writing hinges on this key understanding. I can truely boost pass rates in GCSE with simple keys and excercises. I can plumb the depths of the human condition in Shakespeare or take appart grammatical points with clarity. I am confident of enthusing you with a love for English and look forward to working with you.
