I have had two years on online tutoring experience. I organise online lessons for secondary school students pursuing their GCSEs and A Levels, or the American Advanced Placement (AP) subjects, specialising in physics and mathematics (Mostly calculus for AP students in the USA). I have tutored online regularly since the summer of 2021 (on , a USA-based online tutoring platform) for at least three hours of teaching time per week. My students mainly seek help with their homework and exams, and I have received five students who schedule regular sessions with me throughout their school year and I have received great feedback from them.
My tenet of teaching can be summarised by three words--supportive, encouraging, and listening. I do not think that pressing on students can nurture interest, so I will guide them and encourage them to explore and support them to overcome any difficulties. This will develop students’ intrinsic motivation for learning. I will also listen to students rather than talk monotonously like a lecturer, in order to best address students’ needs. To maximise efficiency during class time, I request students to prepare the materials they would like to consolidate before the class so that I can pinpoint students' weaknesses. I typically do as many classes as my student requests, and my teaching goal will be different for specific students. For students who have an upcoming exam, I will cover exam techniques and go over past paper questions, while for students who want to gain a deeper understanding of interest in their subject, I will teach them the logic behind the subject and connect the different parts together. During the online class, I use an on-screen whiteboard to draw diagrams and type words, and because the session is 1-1, I do not adopt a "lecture" style but keep it conversational. My students can interrupt when they encounter anything they don't understand.
Welcome to reach out to me and start a talk!
