Best at essay writing, Film and English analysis, techniques and general English
I know that there is so so much content in essay writing subjects which puts a lot of pressure on them, so the way I found them much more manageable is through making sure I was really confident in essay language (the better you know how to write formally the more mature and comprehensive your points will sound), analysis, keywords and structure.
In our lessons I'd want to find out specifically what parts you're not sure about, whether it's the key themes of a book or the whole subject - and we can pick it apart and break it down as simple as we need! There's no dumb questions and we can go over it as many times as needed.
For books and films, breaking them apart scene by scene is so crucial. Prioritising key scenes and understanding writer/director techniques, central themes, quotes and details will be a massive help. Having this layered knowledge of all the parts that make up what you're studying is the most important, and everything else you need will fall into place around it. I'm very good at picking these apart and am very happy to go through it thoroughly with you and show you how to do this yourself
For poetry and language, annotation is usually the best way to get an in depth understanding of the techniques and find similarities between poems to be able to practice your comparison. I get that poetry can be really slow and harder to focus on, but the more you drill the techniques and language into your brain the easier and faster it becomes to pick things apart. We will go through ways to do this as much as you need.
Practise essays are so so useful - I know no one wants to write essays in their revision when they don't have to but it helps by miles when it comes to actual exams. This helps you understand structure and content, especially so that you're not caught off guard in the real exams by questions you were hoping not to get. This also works wonders with your time management, which is often overlooked a lot despite how essential it is!
I know people's brains work in very different ways - I often didn't like the way teachers told us to analyse or revise and so figured out my own ways that I can retain information and practice when studying. So figuring out how you learn best and what methods don't work for you is really important to me! That way we can figure out what does work best in your head.
