Teaching Style:
Maths:
• I begin each lesson with a starter task to get the problem-solving element of the brain flowing.
• I then present the student with an exam question to dissect together, and go through the example; this is followed with a set of questions being given to the student and then we actively mark them to highlight where any mistakes were made, as one learns better if they can detect their own mistakes.
• Following this, I then give the student a final example question, which they will then talk me through, and ‘teach me’ in return, as this is also a key form of active recall, and as assessment of understanding.
English:
• I tend to begin each lesson with a starter task, related to the theme of the lesson, and then present the student with an exam question to dissect and construct an answer for together by the end of the lesson.
• Always interactive containing a lot of active recall to ensure understanding (e.g. quote analysis for meaning, theme analysis, historical context, technique)
• Deep focus on understanding of a text and how it translates to real life today, as that is what I find most fascinating about English myself - how it applies to the present.
