I believe it is incredibly important to harness a student's passions and interests during the sessions. For example for music theory and aural training, we could take a student's favourite song and analyse and discuss the dynamics, key signature, time signature, tempo etc. I also believe in the power of movement for engaging students and embodying the musical elements e.g., rhythm, intervals. As someone who is neurodivergent, I find it important to cater to each student's learning methods as using alternative ways of learning like this can be really effective and fun! If you are a GCSE or A-Level student I am happy for you to bring whatever you may be working on during class, whether that be a composition, a piece you are preparing for performance, music analysis queries or music academic essays.
I achieved A grades in English Literature, Music and Drama at A-Level, and took a number of Academic Music modules at university so am confident at writing essays and have picked up some tips and tricks that I would love to be able to pass on!
For Singing Lessons, again, I believe movement is key. Particularly as we rely so heavily on our bodies for singing and so listening and being in tune with our bodies is vital for singing practice. We will begin with a variety of different warm-ups, which will be adjusted and personalised for each voice type, need and aspiration vocally. The focus of the lesson will be on the repertoire, whether that be classical, pop, musical theatre, jazz etc. We will work on the technique and support that is needed to perform your repertoire and also discuss the musical elements of the piece, discussing, singing, improvising and using movement and imagery to fully embody the music until you know it inside out! My aim is to help you with the technique and skills that you need to thrive, whilst also bringing in music theory elements throughout to increase your overall musical knowledge.
Most importantly I aim to inspire a passion for music and build your musical and performance confidence!
