I offer students training in mental preparation for exam performance. I have a masters degree in Sport and Exercise Psychology and am currently in training to become a Performance Psychologist. Additionally, I currently work as a learning mentor in a school, helping a number of students prepare for upcoming GCSE and A-Level exams.
Preparing for exams is just another context in which performance psychology is applicable. My sessions are structured around discussing student issues and challenges surrounding exams and revision (which can be relieving itself), setting specific goals around what the student want to achieve, creating action plans around how to achieve those goals, and learning new strategies to manage any unwanted thoughts and feelings (e.g., anxiety, stress, negative emotions, self-doubt) that students are having about their academic performance. The aim of this work is to motivate students towards engaging in the right type of preparation and reduce the influence that unwanted thoughts and feelings have on them. This enables students to enter exams focusing on the right things to achieve success.
