I have 15 years of experience working across mainly Key Stage 2, however I have experience of Key Stage 1 and have recent, up-to-date phonics teaching experience. I am the maths specialist in my school and am interested in different methods of teaching maths. I use lots of concrete resources to aid the teaching of all units of maths. Maths is a passion of mine and really enjoy watching children grasp concepts and learn things that will be useful in their lives. I try to link maths to real life and why children need to learn maths to succeed in life. Currently I teach years 4/5/6 so have lots of experience regarding preparing for SATs tests in both maths and English. I am fully aware of what students need to be able to do to pass the tests. Reading is one of the most important skills for children and I am competent in teaching phonics and reading comprehension. I am also able to teach spelling and handwriting in order for children to improve their writing skills. Reading is very important for gaining vocabulary and improving writing, as well as learning how to use punctuation and paragraphs. Recently I have been teaching small groups and 1:1 in addition to my regular teaching time in class so am used to working with individual students. I hope that my students find my lessons fun as well as informative and make good progress. I endeavour to help all children, whatever their ability. All children learn differently and I aim to help each child succeed and flourish.
