I have taught adults in a college setting for over 10 years, teaching computer literacy, which involved teaching functional English to level 2 standard. Functional English would be the type of English I would offer, that would prepare you to learn to read, write and speak English confidently and use it in your study, work, and life.
The method in which I would deliver my teaching, would be to;
First assess where you are in your ability to read, write and speak English at the point you start having tutoring. The type of learner you are also will be assessed, such as are you a visual learner, do you like to see pictures of explanations, or are you an auditory learner, do you like to listen mainly, etc there are many other learning types and we will discuss this in the initial first meeting.
From this assessment then, goals can be set, from which lessons would be planned.
The lessons themselves will be informal and have a fair amount of your own input, in terms of how you like to learn, so as to put you at ease and enable you to learn in a way that is tailored to you.
As it will be online, I will clearly outline how much time we will spend on each element within the lesson, putting it in to a lesson plan, to make sure we are working progressively towards the goals that you want. There will be an assessment after each lesson, so that you have a record of how you are progressing.
