I like to structure my sessions so both the student and myself have clear expectations.
1. I introduce the learning objective and explain how it relates to what they have already learned. Within this section we usually do a short speaking and listening activity that gets the brain in gear for what's coming up in the session, and shows off what you have just learned. Ask students what they learned last lesson, to check for understanding.
2. We then build on that with a presentation or video to give the lesson some context. Here I might ask you questions to write down or say to me about the presentation.
3. In small steps, I will model what I want you to do within the session, so that you can work your way through and start to familiarise yourself with the upcoming task. Gradually, I will let you do more and more on your own, so that you demonstrate your understanding before the task. We might also practise any vocabulary here that you might need before you do the task on your own.
4. Review what you've done within the task and give look at what we need to work on for the next session.
These stages will be broken up with short, fun activities that let you practice what you've done and give you a breather in between teaching points. I hope this sounds helpful to you. I do like finding out what your interests and strengths are so that I can use material that will be relevant to you, so I look forward to hearing about what works for you.
