How many squares and rectangles are there in a chess board?

The question can be solved using combination and permutations. 9C2 x 9C2
Since there are 9 lines on a chess board and you need 2 lines vertically and 2 horizontally to complete a square and rectangle. So the answer is (9*8)/2 * (9*8)/2=36*36=1296
