I was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. I did my undergraduate work at the University of Arizona where I completed two Bachelor of Arts degrees: one in Western and American history, the other in non-Western history. I completed graduate level course work at California State University Sacramento and the University of Arizona where my area of specialization was intellectual history, or the history of ideas. I have the equivalent of a Masters of Arts in modern European history and am currently completing a Masters of Arts in American history with a concentration in economic history.
I taught at public, charter, and private schools for over twenty years in Tucson, Arizona. I taught Western civilization at Pima Community College as an adjunct professor for six years. I am certified by the State of Arizona to teach history, as well as highly qualified to teach English, economics, U.S. government and political science, and geography.
I teach the following courses at the secondary, AP, and college levels:
WESTERN CIVILIZATION \ WORLD
EASTERN CIVILIZATION / HISTORY
MODERN EUROPE
AMERICAN HISTORY & CIVILIZATION
ECONOMICS
When I teach, I try to integrate art, music, movies, and literature, in addition to literature and primary sources. I have experience teaching and tutoring online and I think online education is growing and represents the wave of the future in education.
I spent a number of years in the business world, in finance, investments and appraising, as well as having my own business, prior to returning to teaching, so I also tutor and teach economics and business.
