I am an architecture graduate from Newcastle University who has been tutoring for six years. I have a professional experience in teaching and enjoy helping students achieve the results they want.
The basis of my lessons are set to learning outcomes. These learning outcomes are made in discussion with the tutee, these can be in alignment to exam papers, specific topics, school criteria or anything the tutee finds difficult. Once set, I plan lessons to cover the topic methodically and tailor the lessons dependent on the tutee's goals. I set homework on the tutee's request.
In my lessons, communication is key and I encourage interaction through the lessons I curate. A typical lesson would start with a quick series of questions to gauge how much the student knows before going into the lesson. Any gaps in knowledge is addressed with taught theory and then followed by exercises. These are built upon each week in a layering process to secure foundational knowledge and progress through the subject to achieve the ultimate learning outcomes. I hone this principle to teach Maths, Biology, Physics and Chemistry. I try to make the lessons as fun and engaging as possible to get the most of my students.
For GCSE and A level students I also focus on exam technique, which has yielded great results from my previous students. Effectively applying knowledge to an exam style questions is equally as important as the knowledge of a subject itself. I do this by starting early with exam style questions to help the student gain confidence in this area.
