I teach students who are transitioning into interdisciplinary fields in Geography and other related social science subjects as well as those studying core subjects strictly adhering to disciplinary norms and traditions. Both demand different pedagogical tools and orientation that I have been able creatively hone over the last decade of intensive research, research communication, writing and policy-oriented work.
In my teaching I love to use a problem-oriented, critical inquiry based approaches to help students connect the tangible, experiential, and the abstract in a relatable way. I use a lot of visual, narrative-based and creative empirics to engage students with complex social science topics.
I encourage my students to use writing as a means to imagine and create impact as they evolve in their chosen fields.
Having been a researcher in interdisciplinary social sciences for nearly a decade, I am inclined to teach with a wide range tools drawn from years of experience in research pedagogy, and believe in co-creating knowledge through learner-centric approaches.
