I have been teaching GCSE maths foundation tier and functional skills maths for over 5 years.
I teach both adults and young people . My lessons are very engaging, with different teaching and learning approaches. I use games, online platforms, videos , presentations and workbooks to engage learners. I subscribed to online platforms and exam boards to access the latest materials and and update resources.
I start off my lessons with a diagnosis assessment to work out what learners can do and where the knowledge gaps are so that I can tailor learning to their needs. I then give another assessment to work out the learning preferences of the learners. This gives me a good understanding of the learners and their learning styles. Lesson are then planned according to meet learner needs.
Once I have worked with learners to establish what they can do and where to start, I then introduce the content, units to be covered, lesson plans and activities to be done in lessons. Depending on how long the learners needs my support , I plan weekly lessons covering a minimum of 1 hour.
I scaffold my lessons to give my learners confidence and gradually take it away as learners gain confidence. Application of maths in real life is a major part of my lessons as it helps learners to apply skills learnt in real life. I give weekly homework which I mark , give feedback and work through with the learner focusing on areas that need development. I promote independence in all my lessons.
