I am a language and reading teacher who helps students with their linguistic competencies in the four macro skills: reading, writing, listening, and speaking. In teaching, I always prioritize building meaningful connections with students as I value their context. From there, I tailor my lessons to provide them a deeper and genuine understanding of the concept.
After handling 21st-century learners in primary and secondary school, I noticed that the common difficulties in language learning are fear of committing mistakes and lack of interest. These problems stem from the failure of the teacher to foster a conducive environment for the students, albeit online. Given this awareness, I make it a point to genuinely explain the importance of language learning and provide interesting activities that stimulate student learning. Through this, I wish to open up opportunities for them to appreciate better what they are doing and take language learning as a fun and memorable experience.
To cite examples of the activities I provide, I usually utilize interactive platforms such as Kahoot and Quizizz, or simple games such as 'Pass the Message', 'Complete the King's Message' and other fun-filled games. I also inject authentic learning experiences, such as allowing them to interview foreigners, mock debates, etc. I am also an advocate of collaborative work, so I usually incorporate group work in my classes or sessions.
Ultimately, I am a teacher who prioritizes my students' welfare and learning. I hope to provide meaningful experiences to the students I will be privileged to interact with.
