Rick in a nutshell
My approach is simple: tell me a song you love, and I will teach you to play it, improvise over it, or compose a song in that style. This method definitely keeps students motivated, and makes learning a lot more fun!

I have taught for over 30 years, and teach all styles, from pop to jazz to classical. I welcome all ages and skill levels, from beginner to aspiring professional. My wife Kate Finn also teaches piano, as well as Voice, Flute, and Guitar.

Kate and I have written and produced 32 musical theatre shows, and have taught songwriting in over 60 public schools. Currently we create educational music videos, which can be seen on our website: .

Piano: Pop, Jazz, Songwriting, Classical, Improvisation, Rock.

Recent student Review:

"Our older son has been taking piano lessons from Rick for eight years and our younger daughter for four years. They both adore Rick and look forward to their lessons with him. He is easy and fun to work with and he fosters their love of music expertly. I highly recommend Rick as a music teacher. He is having a profound and positive effect on my children's musical lives and I am so grateful we found him all those years ago." - Dana B., Portland, OR, USA

"Rick Weiss is a master teacher of piano and percussion. I learned to take my piano to the next level in a short period of time. Very impressed, great teacher- highly recommend!" -F. Spillers, Dundee Scotland

Rick has been an excellent teacher and a good friend to my son for several years now. Their weekly music discussions go beyond the piano and Rick has instilled a lifelong love of music.

Sat, Jul 1 at 7:37 AM I have known Rick since moving to Portland, OR in 1968. He is remarkably talented. He and his wife, Kate Finn write, produce, and perform in their own original stage productions. He is a patient, supportive, and innovative music teacher. Rick is comfortable teaching both beginning and advanced students. When the pandemic arrived, Rick made it possible to continue my lessons remotely on my cell phone. I know him to be honest, straightforward, and constantly intellectually curious. I am confident you will find him so. Sincerely, Carl Dunlap 8465 SW Shiller Road Portland, OR - 97225 503-206-4612 cdd5792@yahoo.com
