My approach to teaching music is through a basic understating of how music itself works. Having a basic grip, with even a foundational level of music theory, can aid tremendously in the understanding and ease and which we can comprehend and ingest music. My approach to teaching guitar comes from this overall approach to music learning. If we can understand what we are truly doing on the fretboard we can then see these patterns repeated again and again as we learn more and more music. If we can understand what part our role has in the overall context of the ensemble and composition, we will not only become better listeners but far better players as a result. We can contribute to the music thoughtfully and with awareness, listening for both how our role as guitarists sit in the ensemble and for how the other players roles play a part in making up the music as a whole.
I enjoy to teach guitar in various different styles including; Funk, Disco, Blues, Blues/Rock, Glam Rock, Soul, Motown and Rockabilly.
I have 20+ years of experience in the music industry starting out gigging pubs with my father when I was about 16. I've gone on to play at some of the biggest festivals in Ireland, and I've played multiple times on national TV and Radio in Ireland. I now mostly compose music for film and TV with some of the films I have scored going on to screen and the 35th Galway Film Fleadh and GAZE Dublin Film Festival 2023 and Final Girls Berlin Film Festival.
