My main aim with tutoring is to be for current students what my teachers were for me - supportive, informative and inspiring. I have a psychology degree under my belt as well as experience teaching both A Level and GCSE psychology and sociology. I am familiar with the main exam boards and what exactly they look for in exams. I am currently doing my Secondary Education Social Science PGCE and have had various opportunities to develop my teaching practice and subject knowledge. During this course I have had the chance to meet with the head of curriculum from AQA and have one on one conversations about how to mark and teach so students develop the skills to get exceptional marks. My teaching style is interactive and my main aim is to promote love for the subject which ultimately leads to higher engagement and understanding of key concepts and skills. I have experience working in two 11-18 schools deemed ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted. And during my time at these schools I have learnt a lot from my colleges about expert teaching. I have worked with both higher attaining and lower attainting students as well as students that are EAL and SEN. I have also worked with a range of year groups: from year 7 all the way up to year 13. As well as this, I have first hand experience in the mental health field working with individuals with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, learning difficulties and substance use disorder. I feel that the real world experience in the subjects I teach allow me to give a story to what is in the textbooks.
