Having completed my BA History course from the University of Leeds, I am now undertaking my TEFL course which is providing me both with a technical understanding of English language as well as frequent practice regarding the creation and deliverance of lesson plans.
I'm lucky enough to have travelled to many of the places in which I have a historical interest including Peru, Cyprus and America to name a few. This has given me an appreciation for the holistic nature of history and the need to bring life and vibrance into the classes that I teach. In the course of my travels and education I have also gained a strong conversational level of Spanish which allows me to both see histories in different ways and engage with a broader range of people.
I have had experience working with young people before both in education and in more activity-based settings. Indeed, the work I undertook at an after school group involved both. I have also worked at the Bell Education school in Cambridge gaining hands-on knowledge of the classroom environment in what is undoubtedly a landmark centre of education and learning. Yet, I equally enjoyed assisting with children and young people who were learning to ride horses. Again, this mixture of experiences has indicated to me the importance of engaging students in different ways.
I use personal feedback, past papers and in-depth essay-writing practice, among other methods, to actively improve students' academic skills and enrich their learning. I generally like to supplement this by finding interesting podcast clips or videos too for extra revision resources.
Looking forward to working with you
Rhys :)
