Renee-Lauren Hickey

I am passionate about providing an education to young people including those with special educational needs that serves them and their individual experiences, characteristics, interests and aspirations in the context of the wider curriculum. I believe that all young people deserve an education that allows them to achieve their potential and the way to unlocking this is by allowing them to believe in their own excellence.

I have experience teaching in a Wave 3 SEND Provision as well as within primary schools with a high proportion of pupils with SEND and SEMH needs. I prioritise building relationships with the pupils I teach and feel that through establishing secure connections we can build on pupils’ confidence and responsibility which increase academic success and fulfilment.

I strongly believe that education should be empowering and I strive to ensure that my students develop a love of learning and gain the skills necessary to become independent, life-long learners and responsible members of society. This means that I endeavour to plan and deliver lessons that are interactive, exciting and cross-curricular, as well as providing learners with the opportunity to reflect upon their progress and take ownership of their development.
