I trained as a primary school teacher, qualifying in 2021 with a level 7 PGCE from Northumbria University. I took a SCITT approach meaning for the year of my training, I taught from September right the way through to July. This experience gave me a fantastic opportunity to teach year groups from Foundation focusing on SSP (systematic synthetic phonics) to Year 6, focusing on SATS. Whilst I am no longer working as a teacher, my passion for giving children the skill and knowledge to move forward in their learning is something I am very passionate about and keen to continue.

I believe that children learn best when they are interested, engaged and hands on with learning which is why I like to introduce the use of concrete material when teaching. I also believe repetition of knowledge really implants learning into the brain allowing it to become deeply implanted into the long-term memory.

I like to keep lessons relatively short, depending on the year group. I understand children have a shorter attention span and need to keep regular movement to be in the right head space for their learning.

In my teaching, I would like to understand how my pupil prefers to learn so I can tailor the lesson around their preferences whilst instilling the knowledge they need to progress at school. I will always provide a presentation to base the learning on, seen as I offer online lessons but I believe a crucial part of teaching is the explanation offered to pass the knowledge across to the pupil. I use simple terms, that my pupil will understand to allow for a steady progression towards targets and goals.

My areas of knowledge are primary school subjects with a focus on phonics, English including spelling, grammar, punctuation) and maths. However, if there are any other subjects, I can also offer tutoring for this at both KS1 and KS2 level.

Rebecca has started with my son and grew a bond instantly. Rather than a battle to do the home work he says he enjoys it. She is punctual and professional. Strongly recommend.

I found Rebecca to be very knowledgeable, professional and friendly. She has a very caring nature and can relate to children very well. She has a thorough knowledge of Key Stages 1 and 2. She plans in great detail and can reflect on her practise to cater for individual students.

Since taking tutoring sessions with Rebecca my son has more confidence in his school lessons and in asking for help when he’s struggling in certain areas! Couldn’t recommend her enough!
