Having had an initial meeting with the student, I prefer to tailor the sessions to their individual needs. I ask lots of questions to learn about their academic background and which areas of the subject they find the most challenging. But I am also interested to know which areas they are most confident in, since the existing knowledge and understanding they have can be used to build understanding in less familiar areas.
I learn best by asking questions, so I like to make my lessons as interactive as possible in order to give the student a chance to flag any weaknesses in their understanding of a topic. Having a student repeat a process we have just covered back to me is a great way for me to assess how well they have understood.
I have an extensive and strong academic background, and because of this I am in a position to draw on my own experience to assist my students with their preparations for examinations. Having only recently graduated from university, I consider myself to be a relatable teacher with an up-to-date familiarity with the education system.
