I like to use a student led format of tutoring, with the student explaining to me what they know so far, what they may struggle with and what they need a full explanation on. I then deal with each of these things one by one, through my own personal experience working in the industry, my educational experience from my degree, and using examples from every day. I encourage students to submit work to me for feedback, including everything from ideas to first drafts of projects. I always aim to make learning fun and interactive, especially in an area as practical as media!
I also believe that you do not need fancy equipment to make a good video, so I will teach my student how to film using their mobile phone, how to create good lighting using kitchen appliances, how to edit professionally using free software that is easy to you and accessible, and how to transform any room into a studio.
In terms of social media/marketing, I ask students to source campaigns and ads that they think are successful, and we go through why they are, the psychology behind marketing, the reason why social media it’s important and how to engage best with audiences.
I also assist with interview preparation, how to create a CV for the media industry, and how you can make the most out of your experiences working in the media. This information is all coming from personal experience and advice I have been given throughout my career
