Teaching method (open to be altered according to the student, however my default teaching method is as follows):
- Short walkthrough of the module topic with QnA throughout to ensure the topic is understood
- Exploring and answering example questions together
- Give an exam question to the student to attempt and walk through the answer together (we will go through as many questions as we can until the end of the session)
Qualities:
- Patience I believe is my strongest quality and is quite necessary for a teaching role in my experience as students are constantly rushed in the classroom to prevent them from falling behind so it is important to provide an environment to students that they feel they can take their time to understand and ask questions when necessary.
- Communication I believe is also a strength of mine as well as listening to others. As each student is different, it is of great importance to communicate well and listen to the student in order to maximise their improvement and growth in the subject. Each student learns in a different way so it is vital as a tutor to adapt to their learning style as opposed to them adapting to the tutor’s teaching style.
Experience:
- I have experience tutoring my little brother through his GCSE maths. The dynamic used above proved to be efficient and beneficial to him which resulted in him understanding each topic as well as the concepts he initially found difficult to grasp.
- I also have experience being a liaison to a classroom of secondary school kids where I helped them, on a wide and individual/personal scale, to understand key concepts for their future education, revision techniques and guide them through activities. This allowed me to refine my presentation skills and one-on-one personal communication skills.
