I start with background knowledge of that issue of procedural point and why it exists. I may discuss any changes historically and then any modern reforms needed or being discussed. I then explain the issue or procedural point in question by giving a practical example of how it is used in practice and what can be expected from a court or opposing side in counter arguments (if relevant). I give a theoretical example and how to apply the example in practice or where to find the answer. Legal resources that will be of essential help, IT resources and where to research further will also be given.
I always aim to make people feel competent in practice so recommend where to get practical experience, be it courts, public gallery viewing or free work experience.
My general career advice about which career route to take based upon strengths and likes of the student, for example, solicitor, barrister, CILEX/FILEX, notary or scrivener, usher or clerk, since I have worked with all of them and know there are not only the two heard of career options, like solicitor or barrister.
My style is always one of encouraging and clarifying, not criticising and rubbishing. Feedback always includes how to better on what has been done and recommendations for what to do next. I aim to bring the brightest and best into the legal profession and if that means you then I intend to make sure you are the best version of you with no lacking or shortfalls and you can hit the ground running, be it at college, university or the workplace!
