Hola amigos,
My name is Raquel and I have been living in the UK since 2015, I am a native Spanish speaker and was born in Madrid.
I am often asked “What are you doing here?”, well, I always wanted to sharpen my English, to become fluent and after many years of reading and writing in English I felt very frustrated by my low speaking confidence and poor listening skills. This is how I learned the importance of learning with a native speaker and how to develop the method I use to teach Spanish to my students.
Would you like to speak Spanish once and for all?
When I was studying English I had enough of boring grammar books and exercises, what I really wanted was to speak English from day one. I also tried those modern apps which promise you to speak a language in a week with virtually no effort…Yeah, whatever…
With my classes you will be speaking Spanish from the very first moment. My lessons are focused on conversation, once you are able to speak and understand basic Spanish we will then move on to grammar, reading and writing
You will soon realise that speaking Spanish is easier than you think!
Forget the old boring method of memorising grammar and vocabulary. We will use more visual and practical vocabulary and grammar instead. Learning through conversations based on topics of your interest. My method is based on communication and learning tasks, which means you will be using Spanish from the first lesson. You will learn in a dynamic and efficient way, since you will be using the language a bit more each day.
I design a customised course for each student, taking in consideration your needs, so you can progressively develop your communication skills in Spanish and reach your goals.
More about me...
In 2015, I decided to leave my hometown in Spain and move to England to improve my English and learn first-hand about its culture. It was then that I discovered the great lack of language classes in terms of oral and listening practice. I myself could write and read English much better than I could communicate orally. Living in Yorkshire was quite a challenge!
But it was during my maternity leave, when some acquaintances asked me for Spanish classes and I will never regret saying yes. That allowed me to unite my two passions: teaching and love for my language and my culture.
In 2019, I decided to train and become a Spanish Teacher with ELE Intentional, a prestigious international institution, to be able to teach my language and culture not only to children but also to adults. Getting to specialise in online conversation classes in order to help all those people who, like me, want to be able to use their second language fluently.
I have more than 15 years of teaching experience and 4 teaching online, thanks to this background I have developed a program customised to every student’s needs. The concept “One size fits all” doesn’t work at all in teaching not only languages, but virtually anything.
There are some students who would rather focus on learning the language by simulation of real-life situations, while others would rather study grammar and understand each idiomatic structure. I never stop studying because I always want to become a better teacher for my students.
I recently finished a cognitive grammar course and one specific training on conversation classes. I regularly attend webinars and conferences by prestigious teachers to keep up to date with the latest trends in teaching.
All of my students enjoy my approach to teaching Spanish because they make fast progress and never feel like skipping my class… That’s a huge achievement! I love travelling and meeting people from everywhere. I’ve lived in a lot of different places, I currently live in West Yorkshire with my little boy and my husband. Enjoying the experience of raising him as bilingual.
I love to walk and organise small excursions and parties with my family and friends. I also really enjoy music and movies, which I consider great allies to perfect any language you want to learn. I love to cook and meet new places and people.
