A lesson should always begin with an update about their week and progress so far. Taking the first 5 mins to invoke a conversation allows a student to feel at ease before beginning the planned lesson. With regular testing, progress is always visible. I will include a mix of slideshows, written documents if necessary, worksheets to print and complete and an interactive whiteboard to collaborate on questions and puzzles. A dynamic session will include a good chuck of discussion to gauge the thinking process of a student. A regular homework schedule will be established but with caution giving school work a priority.
Having taught a few friends in younger years, this approach has seen great success and they have moved onto further studies at amazing universities or pursued apprenticeships of choice.
