*My approach:
I work through questions step by step with the student, ensuring they understand why each stage is necessary. I take great care with this, so students are able to apply their knowledge, tackling questions on their own by the end of our lessons. I have a strong grasp of the majority of topics at A-Level/ all topics at GCSE, and so am able to help students who may be struggling in their classes by adapting their approach. I have a patient and friendly demeanour, and strive to help every student I come across.
*Format of lessons:
ONLINE LESSONS: The format I use would be via live video calls, with options of going through the student's school work via screen share or sending photos etc. Paired with the use of Notes app/ similar software to explain methods.
I would be able to fit around the student's schedule, prioritising what they struggle with at school.
PHYSICAL LESSONS: Going through printed worksheets/ past paper questions together. I am only able to offer in-person lessons in Ruthin, North Wales.
*Experience:
I have been helping classmates/ younger students in school for all my learning journey, so am comfortable with interacting and explaining content. I have patience and determination which has resulted in many successes in this way. :)
In terms of actual structured experience:
- Student Mentor at Ysgol Brynhyfryd, Ruthin
(December 2022 to April 2023)
I successfully helped multiple Y8 and Y9 students with their Mathematics in school last year. These were in the form of short weekly sessions, as I was also learning my AS Levels at the time.
With some of these younger students, I helped with specific topics/ methods they were struggling with in class. For example, I sometimes offered different ways to view the problem (depending on the topic and student), so the student could successfully complete the questions.
With other students, I followed material given by the supervising teacher, which covered various topics on their specification, helping their overall skills and understanding.
