I have been teaching English as a second language for the last 3 years for international students on different platforms.
One of the achievements for me is that I can speak in 6 different languages, so it is an advantage for me when someone has difficulties in communicating in English at the beginning so that I can translate it for them in their own language provided the language matches with their mother tongue. Therefore, I try to motivate them to speak in their own language so that learning seems easy for them to move into the English language.
Some learners are sheepish by nature and reticent as well. So, I inspire them to talk and be friendly so that we can start the conversation.
I understand that each learner has a distinct way of perception of learning, so I must realise it well.
For each learner, initially, I conduct an assessment test to understand their level of english which is essential for me to prepare their lessons accordingly. So, I design, develop and make a format for the lesson which may be audio technique, or visual type or combination or kinesthetic tactic.
On the path of English learning, I ascertain the following techniques are followed for my learners so that learning seems to be an integral part of their life.
Keep lessons simple, suitable, easy and comprehensible.
I instruct them clearly with amazing examples as if they are in my lesson for the first time.
I always ask them to listen to me with full concentration. In case they miss any part of my presentation, they must ask me politely.
I enquire about the lesson after finishing it to find out if they have grasped it well, or if anything needs to be explained.
If they face any kind of problems, I always ask them to contact me .
I always start teaching from their weaker sides so that they can move slowly but steadily.
I always follow CCQ ( concepts checking questions) to find out the feedback of my learners.
In case some words or vocabulary are difficult for them, I paraphrase it for them.
I go with them for drill, repeat, drill, repeat, drill technique.
In teaching I focus on weaker learners first from easy to harder steps.
I establish classroom language so that everyone feels safe and sound.
I avoid burdensome techniques for teaching, so I believe that being friendly with learners makes things smoother.
I ask my learners to read, practise pronunciations with me, which is an imitation or shadowing technique.
As my learners are fluent in their own language, so that they can learn the English language as well.
Practice is the key factor for learning and development.
