I am an undergraduate Mathematics, MSci student, and achieved three A*s in Maths, Further Maths, and Physics. I want to share my learning and revision methods that helped me achieve these grades, as I learnt actually understanding what you are doing is the key to walking n confidently into an exam. Moreover, having a structure for each type of question meant answering questions was more efficient.
In the first session, I will ask the student to complete a short test, just to assess what they need help with specifically. I will use this to plan the sessions to address their problems with the topic.
Following lessons will generally take the structure: it will begin by asking my student to complete a couple questions based on the previous session. The main body of the lesson will involve me going through a specific topic they are struggling with and helping them understand- students are of course more than welcome to interrupt to ask questions should they need clarification on any part of the method. I will also give them an answer structure for this topic. Finally, I will end the session by working through example questions, and invite the student to take me through a couple more to ensure they have gripped the topic.
Every lesson, I will have a presentation prepared with all the information and examples used during the sessions the student can review it whenever they want after the session.
